Immigration Medical Exams (IMEs)

Avo Medical Clinic’s sister clinic, Abbotsford Immigration Medical Clinic, specializes in Canadian and New Zealand immigration medical exams. The clinic is Canadian and New Zealand empanelled and eMedical-enabled, and operates from the same location as Avo Medical Clinic.


1. Book Your Appointment

To book an appointment, click any BOOK NOW buttons on this page. Answer the questions presented, and make sure to schedule your appointment with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada or New Zealand timelines in mind.

2. Medical Exam, X-ray, Labs

On the date of you appointment you will have the exam completed at our clinic. Patients then visit an X-ray clinic and Laboratory - with locations available for Canadian IME patients within a 5 minute walk to complete any X-rays or Labs.

3. Exam Result Submission

Once your IME is complete, we submit your digital results to Immigration Canada or Immigration New Zealand through eMedical. Exams will be submitted within 5 days after exam, labs, and x-rays have been completed.

What to Bring to Your Appointment:

  1. Valid Passport or Refugee Claimant Document
  2. IMM1017 form titled "Medical Report, Client Biodata and Summary”(If you have been issued one - this is NOT REQUIRED for an Upfront Medical)
  3. Refugee (IFHP): Acknowledgment of Claim document
  4. Your prescription medications (if applicable)
  5. Prescription eyeglasses/contact lenses (if applicable)
  6. You do not need to bring any passport size photos as we will take your photo in the clinic

  • Abbotsford Immigration Medical Clinic will be conducting all immigration medical exams. This clinic is our sister clinic, and shares a location with Avo Medical clinic. The address is:

  • The cost of the Canadian Immigration medical exam is $200.

    This includes examination by panel physician and for IME report to be submitted to the IRCC via eMedical system. This price excludes any costs of blood test or X-ray that may be required, which are charged by Lifelabs and the radiology clinic respectively (It is typically $90 for blood test at Lifelabs for those age 15 and over and $90 for chest x-ray for those age 11 and over).

  • The exam in our clinic is $200. This exam price excludes the cost of urine test, blood test, and chest x-ray.

    • A urine test performed in our clinic is required for all patients aged 5 and older and costs an additional $20.

    • Chest x-ray are required for patients aged 11 and older. The cost is variable depending on location. Note that there are currently no New Zealand immigration approved radiology clinics in Abbotsford, see list of approved locations here: https://www.immigration.govt.nz/

    • Blood tests are required for patients aged 15 and older and are performed at Lifelabs. The cost is variable depending on specific tests required.

  • - Age 0-10: Medical Examination

    - Age 11-14: Medical Examination, Chest X-ray

    - Age 15+: Medical Examination, Chest X-ray, Blood Test

  • The tests required depend on the type of visa application you are doing as well as a patient’s age and/or medical history. New Zealand exams for patients 5 and older require a urine test which costs $20 on top of the exam price.

    • Patients 5-10 require a urine test.

    • Patients 11-14 require a urine test & a chest x-ray.

    • Patients 15 and older require a urine test, chest x-ray, & blood test.

  • Yes. Appointments can be scheduled by visiting our “BOOK NOW” page. Please email us at contact@immigrationmedclinic.com if you are a refugee or large group.

  • Yes. We see many refugees and we would be happy to see you for your IME. The cost of your exam is likely covered by the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) for this. Please send us an email at contact@immigrationmedclinic.com if you have any questions regarding this.

  • Yes. After giving birth it is your responsibility to complete the X-RAY and notify our office when it is done. A copy of the Pregnancy Deferral Document will need to be provided to your visa office.

  • Our clinic is conveniently located within a 5 minute walk from an X-ray clinic and laboratory. This makes it easy for Canadian IME patients to finish their required tests and X-ray the same day as their scheduled IME appointment.

  • Please call the IRCC Client Support Centre at 1-888-242-2100 (in Canada only).

  • We are sent the results directly and we use e-Medical to submit the IME report to IRCC. We do not use any paper files and you do not need to come back.

  • It is valid for 12 months. Please complete your application within this time, or you may need to have another examination.

  • If you would like to complete your blood work and chest X-ray on the day of your immigration medical exam, we recommend booking a morning appointment slot.
